Applications for the Rotary Club of St. John scholarship are due by 5 p.m. April 19. The $5,000 one-time scholarship goes to a St. John resident headed for college. It is based on need and merit.

Rotary Club member Bill Willigerod said, “We do it as part of our vocational service and to further the education of St. John students.”

The student must be graduating in June from one of the territory’s high schools with a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average.

Student must have been accepted to an institution of higher education. The student must demonstrate financial need with a parent or guardian’s tax return from the previous year. All financial information provided will be held in strict confidence.

Applicants must include a transcript of credits, S.A.T. score, record of extracurricular activities and three letters of reference. One reference must be an academic while the other two may be selected from a previous employer, guidance counselor or character reference. The applicant must also include short essay on the topic of excellence.

All applicants meeting the eligibility requirements will be interviewed in April. Eligible applicants will be notified of the date, time and place of their interview.

Kershen Bissette, Claudia Verdant, Makik Stevens, Timothy Newton, Marcus Stevens and Patrick Smith were previous recipients of the scholarship.

The applications, including the essays, letters of reference and proof of financial need must be completed and submitted to the Vocational Services Committee of the St. John Rotary Club, c/o Connections or William Willigerod, 16213 Spring Garden, St. John, VI 00830.
