Groundbreaking for Catholic Charities’ new three-story, permanent, supportive housing, soup kitchen, outreach center and administrative office facility was held Friday, April 12. The property, located at 16 Friedenstahl, Christiansted, was donated to Catholic Charities by Rita Schuster and St. Ann Church. The project is being funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development through the Virgin Islands Housing Finance Authority.
The 10-unit housing facility will house persons at risk of becoming homeless and/or homeless persons with multiple barriers to employment and housing.
Catholic Charities have been serving the homeless in their soup kitchens, shelters, street mobile outreach and homeless programs for the mentally ill, substance abuser and homebound elderly in the territory for more than 50 years.
