On behalf of the people of the Virgin Islands, it is indeed an honor for me to acknowledge the accomplishments of two young Crucian Virgin Islanders and the tremendous exposure they have brought to the territory. In consecutive weekends, Kevin Krigger and now Victor Lebron have put us on the map as two young and promising jockeys who will ride in the most sought after race in horse racing, the prestigious Kentucky Derby.
History is being made in the V.I., Krigger being the first black and native Virgin Islander to win the coveted Santa Anita Derby and Victor Lebron, a Virgin Islander of Hispanic descent, who finished second in the Arkansas Derby and is now qualified for the Kentucky Derby based on accumulated points.
The people of the Virgin Islands join me in congratulating them and wishing them continued success as all eyes are now peeled on the Kentucky Derby.
