The Virgin Islands Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. Renaldo Rivera, appointed Command Sgt. Maj. Delores English-Edwards as Virgin Islands National Guard (VING) State Command Sergeant Major (SCSM) on Friday, April 19.
English-Edwards, who previously served as the command sergeant major for the VING Recruiting and Retention Battalion, becomes the second female to serve in this position.
As SCSM, English-Edwards is the principle senior advisor to the adjutant general on enlisted affairs of the VING. She will carry out policies and standards of performance, training, appearance and conduct of enlisted soldiers, according to a press release issued Tuesday by the Joint Force Headquarters V.I. National Guard.
She has been a member of the VING since 1976, and her past assignments include: administrative training specialist, personnel information system management supervisor, data management supervisor/retirement point accounting system (RPAS) noncommissioned officer and personnel staff noncommissioned officer.
Her last several assignments have been in the VING Recruiting and Retention Battalion to include: automation noncommissioned officer, military entry processing station (MEPS) guidance counselor, noncommissioned officer in charge for the battalion and the Recruit Sustainment Program (RSP), and the above mentioned command sergeant major.
English-Edwards effectively began her duty as SCSM on Monday, April 22.
