According to the report issued Saturday afternoon, officers from the Traffic Investigation Bureau are investigating the fatal accident, which occured after 1 p.m. on Friday on Nicholas Friday Drive near Ivanna Eudora Kean High School.

The 911 dispatch center received a call at about 1:50 p.m. reporting the incident, and officers on the scene reported that the safari was traveling west on Nicholas Friday Drive near the school when a black scooter operated by a male driver was traveling east on the same road.

The scooter driver apparently lost control and veered into the west lane, where he collided head-on with the safari. The man was thrown under the front end of the safari.

A backhoe that happened be in the area lifted the safari off the victim, who was treated at the scene by St. Thomas Rescue and EMS. He was transported by ambulance to the Schneider Regional Hospital, where he later died, police said.
