Two Antilles School juniors, Louisa Fredey and Tyler Percell, have won full scholarships from the U.S. Department of Interior to study in summer programs offered by the Junior State of America (JSA). JSA is a non-profit educational foundation created in 1934 to provide learning experiences to high school students interested in politics and government, foreign affairs, the law and education.
Fredey will spend a month in China this summer participating in the JSA International Diplomat Program, studying modern Chinese history as well as government and Chinese language at the Capital Normal University in Beijing, China. A special focus of the program is developing and engaging in diplomatic and cultural relations between nations and people. Fredey was selected from a very competitive national pool of interested high school students and is one of only 20 accepted into the program this summer. She is the daughter of Robin Fredey and JoAnn Buono.
Tyler Percell, son of Karl Percell and Carolyn Hermon-Percell, will head to Georgetown University to study AP U.S. Government. The JSA Georgetown Summer Program combines rigorous college level courses with hands-on learning about our nation’s capital, including meeting and questioning national leaders, White House officials, Congressional leaders, Cabinet members, lobbyists and journalists. Students watch the House and Senate in sessions, and attend Congressional hearings.
