The V.I. Department of Labor will be hosting free computer tutorials every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, starting June 3, according to the department. The tutorials will focus on "digital literacy," meaning it will guide users in the basics of using a personal computer, from how to attach a file to an email to surfing the internet.

The morning session will be held from 10 a.m. to noon and will focus on introductory and basic computer skill development.

Afternoon sessions from 2 to 4 p.m. will provide staff assistance with navigating through the V.I. Next Generation Network’s digital literacy training program. Classes will be offered in two-week rotations.

“This special offering is created to address the growing demand of our employer and job seeker needs as the Internet and technology continue to dominate the recruitment and work search process," Labor Commissioner Albert Bryan said in a statement.

"Providing access to the tools which will better facilitate the labor exchange function and grow our job market is a huge priority for the VIDOL,” Bryan said, encouraging everyone, "particularly our dislocated and older worker population, to seize this opportunity."

Completing the digital literacy training program provides access to advanced training and certification as well as opportunities for employment currently being offered through Connect Space VI, Bryan said the statement.
