In a race that many local fans had been anticipating, Plotter showed Turned to Gold that the boys are a bit tougher than the fillies and mares she has been dominating in her seven-race win streak.

But it was no cakewalk: Turned to Gold gave a good account of herself, losing by just half a length. Some race fans also believed that she may have won the race had she gotten a better ride from her jockey in the stretch. Plotter covered the 7-1/2 furlongs distance in 1:31.

After two defections in the five-horse featured eight race only three thoroughbreds, Plotter, Turned to Gold and According to Jesus, answered the call to post and as expected at the break, Plotter was quickest out of the gates and raced to the early lead. It would be a lead that, although challenged by the mare, he would not relinquish.

Plotter took the field pass the grand stand for the first time and into the backstretch with about a one length over Turned to Gold. A roar went up from the crowd when she moved up to challenge Plotter for the lead midway down the stretch, but jockey Christion Soto Jr. let out a notch and Plotter was able to maintain his short lead. The race was now a two horse affair, as According to Jesus was far back and out of the race.

As the field rounds the far turn, the mare once again moved up to challenge, and they raced as one to the top of the stretch where Plotter emerged with a short lead when they straightened for home.

It was a battle to behold in the run to the wire with many of the female fans in the stands cheering loudest for Turned to Gold to pull off the upset. She gave it a valiant effort but Plotter proved to be a little too tough for her on Sunday, crossing the finish line a measured half a length in front of the mare.
