Joint Federal Operation Brings Copters and Cars to Coral Bay

A helicopter, two U.S. Customs and Border Protection vehicles, and another from the V.I. National Park were in and around Coral Bay on Thursday looking for marijuana, park enforcement chief Lloyd Morris said.

“We never had a time when we went out and didn’t find something,” he said.

The helicopter flew, at times, at an altitude level with some houses.

Morris didn’t have a wrap up of what the agents found Thursday, but said he expected it by Friday. He said his officers were still out in the field.

While Coral Bay has lots of houses, there are pockets of undeveloped areas that might be hidden away from prying eyes. “We’re checking out areas where people are growing illegal substances,” Morris said.

He said the park and Customs and Border protection were working in conjunction with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency.

According to Morris, officers worked on St. Thomas last week.
