Bodil Elodia Christian Dies in Miami

Bodil Elodia Christian Bodil Elodia Christian died on Sept. 26 in Miami, Florida. She was 77 years old.
Beloved daughter of Lucia Williams and Hulbert Christian Sr., she was the second oldest of four sisters and one brother. Ms. Bodil had two beautiful children: Richard and Kimberly. She grew up between St. Croix and St. Thomas, and as a young woman, she lived in New York and California. She returned to St. Croix and worked alongside her sister at Herbert Griggs Home, compassionately caring for our aged citizens. Following her dream to advance in the medical field, she earned a nursing degree from the College of the Virgin Islands. She was extremely proud to assist with establish a nursing curriculum that is still in practice. She worked at the Gov. Juan Luis Hospital as a licensed practical nurse until retirement.
Ms. Bodil remained actively involved in the community island wide for over 41 years. As a founding member of Rigidims Fun Troop, Ms. Bodil was full of energy and excitement every festival when it was time to go “down the road again.” Every election year, Ms. Bodil backed her candidates by campaigning, getting the facts out and pushing the vote. She was a proud member of the Retired Nurses Association, High School Class of 1953, the Hillsiders and the Over 40 Baseball League. She was honored to support the veteran gravesite beautification project. Ms. Bodil had such a green thumb, she could grow a tree from a dried stick; her home overflowed with lovely greenery. She loved to crochet, and her place was in front of the TV during basketball playoffs or with a good movie. Ms. Bodil did everything with spirit, she was there when you needed her, and she served her community and island with pride and honor.
She is survived by her son, Richard Booker; daughter, Kimberly Hunter; sisters: Elita Christian Colbert and Mavis Christian; nine grandchildren and many great- grandchildren; the Christian family, Colbert family, Edwards family, Marcus family, Stanley family, Porter family and Williams family; special friends: the Cepeda family, Abramson family, Rigidims family, H.S. Class of 1953 and Retired Nurses Association; as well as other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
A viewing will take plac at 10 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 14, at the Lord God of Sabaoth Lutheran Church. Interment will be at Kingshill Cemetery at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
