The Poison Prevention Week Council recently announced the winners of the 2014 National Poison Prevention Week poster contest.
National Poison Prevention Week, held the third week in March each year, is observed nationally. In honor of this awareness week, its council conducts a nationwide poster contest to educate the public about the dangers of poisonings and the importance of poisoning prevention. The first place winning poster in each division will be featured as the 2014 National Poison Prevention Week posters. First, second and third place winners in each division are posted on www.poisonprevention.org.
More than 200 posters were submitted from around the nation. Winners were selected in each of the three divisions: grades kindergarten through two; three through five; and six through eight.
The Florida/USVI Poison Information Center – Jacksonville service area winners of the 2014 National Poison Prevention Week poster contest are:
•Grades kindergarten through two, 2nd place: Kevin McAfee, St. Mark’s Episcopal Day School, Jacksonville, Florida
•Grades six through eight, 2nd place: Michelle Gerardo, James Weldon Johnson College Preparatory Middle School, Jacksonville, Florida
•Grades six through eight, 3rd place: Tréasa Selfridge, Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School, St. Thomas, U. S. Virgin Islands
Winners were selected based on creativity, design and poisoning prevention messages. Posters can be ordered through the Poison Prevention Week Council Web site: www.poisonprevention.org.
