The Caribbean Classic Olympic Triathlon took place on Sunday, Nov. 17, at Cramers Park. It included a 1500-meter swim, 25-mile bike and a 5.8-mile run. Relay member Alex Lewit hammered the 1500-meter swim and finished ahead of his Dolphin’s teammates JJ Washshah and Chloe Hayden. Chris Howell and John Salo were the first individual competitors to emerge. Once they were on the bike, the chase was on. Jamie Keys lost Lewit’s lead to relay cyclists Glenn Massiah and David Morales, along with Wayne Nichols and Salo.
The runner for the Hayden/Morales/Luikens team ran a blazing 10k and was the first overall finisher in 2:20:46. Nichols held the lead off the 25-mile bike in the individual race and posted an overall finish time of 2:24:50. Salo recovered from his cramp on the bike and crossed in 2nd place, while Troy Holloway was third. Bridget Campbell lost a little time on the bike in the women’s field to Julie Sommer but regained the time, and then some, on the run. She finished in 2:39:19.
The winner of the Sprint race, Joe Kantowski, competed in his first triathlon as an individual. Laverne Fredericksen was the first female.
Good Hope Country Day students, Dominic Pugliese and Antonio Lewit, competed in the Try-a-Tri division. Ros Turner, who hasn’t done a triathlon since last year, also competed.
The next event will be a Junior Tri VI Splash ‘n Dash at 8 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24, at Chenay Bay. The entry fee is $5 each.
