St. John Rotary’s Flavors 2013 Announces Culinary Winners

0

St. John’s premiere restaurants and caterers stepped up to provide bountiful and delicious offerings to several hundred guests supporting St. John Rotary’s scholarships and community projects. They were aided and abetted by the islands’ wines distributors featuring wines from around the world as well as St. John Brewers with their imaginative brews.
Part of the fun is the friendly competition amongst them for bragging rights to “Best in Category” as determined by a panel of culinary professionals. This year, the judges were led by Jan Robinson (St. Thomas) and included Chris Mitchell (St. Thomas), Eileen Mills (Lake Placid, N.Y.), Kim McCall (St. Thomas), James Crowther (St. Thomas) and Richard Wiggins (St. John). The results are
Mixology:
1st – Fatty Crab (Chupacabra)
2nd – Asolare
3rd – Motu
Appetizer:
1st – Zozo’s at the Sugarmill (Imported Camazola wrapped in smoked prosciutto)
2nd – Queen of Tarts
3rd – Bowman Cuisine at Tamarind Court
Entrée:
1st – St John Catering/Mathayom (Java Seared Lamb, Rosemary Grits and more)
2nd – Fatty Crab
3rd – Caneel Sushi
Dessert:
1st – Creative Catering (Whiskey Caramel Cheesecake, hazelnut crust and smoked sea salt)
2nd – Queen of Tarts
3rd – Café Livin
So as not to leave them with anything to do but eat and drink, the guests voted for their overall favorite, which resulted in a tie this year: La Tapa and Caneel Sushi.
St. John Rotary Club congratulates the “winners” and thanks all the participants and guests for making Flavors 2013 (the 11th Flavors) the best ever. Also, thanks to the many volunteers who helped to make it happen, and to The Westin St. John Resort and Villas for their support and a great venue.
