Two Arrested in Separate Domestic Violence Cases

Julio BeltrePolice on St. Thomas have arrested two men and charged them with domestic violence in separate cases.

According to the report from the V.I. Police Department, officers arrested Julio Beltre Saturday and charged him with assault and battery/domestic violence.

Police said Beltre, 65, struck his girlfriend in her face, causing injuries. The victim also had scratches and scrapes to her back, her mouth was cut and she had scrapes and bruising to her chest.

The incident occurred at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday on Dronningens Gade on St. Thomas. Beltre was held without bail pending further court action.

Monday, police arrested Jefferey Surver and charged him with assault and battery/domestic violence.

Police said Surver, 42, threw his girlfriend out of his car by kicking her and punching her several times.

The incident occurred at about 2:20 p.m. Sunday near the airport.

Surver was held without bail according to domestic-violence laws, pending further court action.

The V.I. Police Department issued a reminder that domestic violence is against the law in the Virgin Islands, and the law applies to all residents of the territory, even those who are not citizens or are undocumented. Anyone – man, woman or child – who experiences any form of abuse, can contact the Virgin Islands Police Department and make a report.
