Couple Carjacked; One of Two Suspects Arrested

Police on St. Thomas arrested a man shortly after he carjacked and robbed a couple who were driving on the Donne Road near the Home Depot intersection Tuesday.

According to the report from the V.I. Police Department, officers were dispatched to the incident at 10:05 p.m. Tuesday and the suspect was taken into police custody and formally arrested at 11:07 p.m. the same day.

The male victim said he and his girlfriend were nearing the intersection when a white Ra 4 vehicle stopped in front of them. Two men got out and approached their vehicle. According to police the victim said the passenger was armed with a firearm and the driver had a knife.

They ordered the couple out of the car and robbed them of their cell phones and one suspect took the car.

Police were dispatched and checked the surrounding area. The stolen vehicle was found on the Weymouth Rhymer Highway in the Donne area. The suspect abandoned the vehicle and ran into the bushes when he saw the police.

Police gave chase and apprehended the suspect, who was carrying a pellet gun.

The suspect was identified as 23-year-old Orville Williams of Oswald Harris Court. He was charged with carjacking, first-degree assault, third-degree assault, possession of stolen property, grand larceny and unauthorized use of a vehicle. His bail was set at $210,000 and he was remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending his court appearance.

This case remains an active investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
