A suspect was arrested Thursday afternoon in a shooting incident in the Contant area near Ulla Muller Elementary School, according to a report from the V.I. Territorial Emergency Management Agency.

The 911 emergency call center received a report of a weapon being fired at 4:43 p.m. Police on the scene closed Contant Road to traffic from the Banco Popular to the school, according to the VITEMA alert.

A second VITEMA statement reported that the road had been reopened and noted, "The suspect in a shooting incident … has been apprehended."

As of 7 p.m. Thursday the V.I. Police Department had still not issued a news report on the incident. Public Information Officer Melody Rames explained that the officers were still in the field gathering evidence and a full report would not be available until they had returned to the office.

She said the information she had received reported a discharge of weapons but she had no information to report on whether anyone had been shot. When the officers file their reports, she said, she would have more information to release.
