Man Charged with Causing Disturbance at Restaurant

Phillip Johnson was arrested Monday and charged with aggravated assault and battery after restaurant workers called police and complained that he was intoxicated and harassing the customers, according to the V.I. Police Department.

According to police, officers arrived on the scene of the Hull Bay restaurant about 3:30 p.m. Monday and saw Johnson inside the establishment causing a disturbance. Witnesses told police Johnson threatened customers and refused to leave the area.

Police tried to escort Johnson out of the business but he resisted and pushed one officer and then ran, according to the report. The officers said they chased Johnson and, while attempting to detain him, both he and an officer fell to the ground.

Johnson was eventually detained and placed under arrest, police said. He was charged with aggravated assault and battery, disturbance of the peace and resisting arrest. Police took Johnson to the Schneider Regional Medical Center where he was treated for minor bruising.

Bail for Johnson was set at $25,000 and he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending further court action.
