Commissioner Lynn Millin Maduro Charged with DUI

Police on St. Thomas arrested Lynn Millin Maduro, commissioner of Property and Procurement, and charged her with driving under the influence of alcohol.

The incident took place a few minutes after 6 p.m. Tuesday on Veterans Drive. Maduro was arrested Thursday and charged with DUI and negligent driving. Two cars, one of them Maduro’s, were damaged in the accident.

Officers arriving at the scene Tuesday evening said they interviewed Maduro and the other driver whose vehicle had been damaged. Officers said they observed that Maduro had a high odor of alcohol on her breath, that her eyes were watery and that her speech was slurred.

The investigation also revealed that Maduro initially left the scene of the accident and then returned, according to the report from the V.I. Police Department.

Officers conducted a field sobriety test at the scene, which police said she failed. Maduro was detained and taken to the VIPD Traffic Bureau office where she was given a Breathalyzer test.

Maduro was arrested Thursday morning and charged with driving under the influence, and negligent driving. She attended her advice of rights hearing the same day. She posted bail of $500 and was released by the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands pending further court action.

  1. It seems to me that this drunk driver was drinking alcohol during work hours. That is grounds for immediate dismissal.

She apparently lied to the arresting officer saying she had not been drinking. That leaves a lot to consider about this woman’s honesty and ability to be an honest commissioner. That to me is grounds for immediate dismissal.

She apparently left the scene of the accident. That is called Hit and Run. That to me is also grounds for dismissal. For some strange reason, she was not charged with Hit and Run, just negligent driving. Negligent? Really??

So, a standing Commissioner is arrested for drunk driving, and negligence (should be hit and run). She fails all of the field sobriety tests. Then she is free to leave. What??? The woman just committed a hit and run while intoxicated and the police just let her go after booking??

Whose car was she driving? Why would the Police allow a drunk to leave the station? Not only does Commissioner Millin Maduro need to be immediately terminated, but the booking officers and decision makers in this case also need to be brought up on charges of negligence, improper booking procedures, and failure to perform as required by law. LAW, the one thing that so many government employees and appointees seem to ignore and flaunt.

She is a danger to both her position and her capability to be truthful. She must be terminated immediately.

In closing, do you think a drunk driver who caused an accident and ran away from the scene, returning to lie to the Police Officer and failed all sobriety tests should be allowed to remain in her position as a commissioner?
