Public Waste Bin Consolidation Postponed

0

The V.I. Waste Management Authority has postponed plans to consolidate the Bournefield and Black Point Hill public waste disposal sites this weekend, according to the VIWMA.

The authority had planned to have the bins consolidated at an interim site at Bournefield by Saturday, but according to VIWMA, the Bournefield site "experienced some challenges which has caused the delay of the closing of the bin sites and opening of the consolidation site."

The VIWMA will announce when the site is ready to be used by the public and the signage at the bin site will indicate that when those sites are closed and will direct residents to use the Bournefield Convenience Center.

The entrance sign to the Bournefield Convenience Center is currently in place and additional signs saying what are acceptable and unacceptable items and designated disposal areas for acceptable waste will be put in place prior to the opening of the site, according to VIWMA.

Acceptable items from residents include:
– Area 1: Household waste only;
– Area 2: Bulk Waste (furniture, bedding, and other bulky items);
– Area 3: White Goods (Appliances).

Businesses are prohibited from disposing of any waste at this site. Any business found to be in violation of this will be cited. Citations start at $1,000.
