Three men were injured Sunday night in a shooting that took place on the waterfront near the Emile Griffith Park on Veteran’s Drive.

According to the V.I. Police Department, a 33-year-old man was shot in his left thigh, a 23 year-old was shot in his right leg, and a 34-year-old man was shot in his left knee.

The victims were taken to the Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment. Police did not release the names of the victims.

Emergency 911 dispatch operators received reports of multiple shot being fired in the area a few minutes past 7 p.m. Sunday. Officers responding to the scene on Konprindsens Gade recovered several spent shell casings, a cell phone, a firearm and a bulletproof vest. Several vehicles in the immediate area were damaged by gunshots.

Police were informed by 911 that the three victims were taken to the hospital by private vehicles.

All of the victims told police they were walking in the area when they heard shots being fired and realized they had been shot. They said they did not know the people who gave them rides to the hospital.

Are there going to be injuries and killings plaguing each Carnival activity? No, that is not the case currently but the anxiety builds as it relates to what should be a festive time for all. I understand that the 2014 JOU’VERT is being considered for cancellation. Is this true?
I say, better to cancel it now, than an hour after it begins. Many travel here for that specific event and are repeatedly disappointed when there is violence which leads to cancellation in the midst. If there is such a meeting today of the VI Carnival Committee, I hope that the decision makers of VIPD and other Law Enforcement are present. In 2012 VIPD had “paddy wagons” along the route (using them as necessary), police in the crowd, and on the water and jou’vert it actually went to completion. The same and more should be implemented. If not possible, then cancel. I live here… the gun-violence (above all) is ongoing & tensions are high and spirits have been dampened all around.
