St. Croix Track Club Succeeds at BayTaff Classic Track and Field

St. Croix Track Club at BayTaff Classic Track and Field Competition in TampaOn May 22 and 23, the St. Croix Track Club (STXTC) attended the 23rd BayTaff Classic Track and Field meet, which was held at the University of South Florida in Tampa. The track club took a total of 10 athletes from ages 5 through 17 with it. In two days, it won 12 medals. There were over 1500 athletes competing. The track club placed in the top 10 teams overall in their division III. Division III was allowed to have up to 19 athletes who could score points toward its standings.
Athletes placing first, second or third received medals, but the top eight athletes scored valuable team points. Mikaela Smith won one gold medal in the high jump, one silver in the 800m, one bronze in 3000m and a fourth place in the 1500m. Amani Alfred came in ninth in the 100m and the 200m, and St. Croix Track Club at BayTaff Classic Track and Field Competition in Tampatenth in the 400m. Colin Liger ran a personal record in the 100m and 200m, but did not make the top 10. Karen Dascent was sixth in the 400m and fifth in the 800m. Michelle Smith was fourth in the long jump, fifth in the 100m, and ninth in the 200m. Hadiyah Shabazz was second in the javelin throw and the discus, and third in the shot put. Rodney Griffin won gold in the 800m, silver in the 400m and ninth in the 200m. Malique Smith won three gold medals: triple jump, 800m and 400m, and one bronze in the high jump. Malique attained the most points of all the athletes and was named ‘Most Valuable Athlete’ of the meet.
