The V.I. Waste Management Authority will hold public meetings to gather information from the community and from large solid waste generators on its proposed strategic plan for 2015 to 2020, the agency announced in a press release.

The meetings will be held Tuesday at the University of the Virgin Islands Great Hall on St. Croix, Wednesday at UVI’s Administrative Conference Room on St. Thomas and Thursday at the Legislature building on St. John.

On all islands, meetings for large waste generators will run from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Large generators are business such as retailers, hotels, restaurants, private sector business, and government agencies that generate large quantities of waste. The meetings for the general public run from 6 to 8 p.m.

The purpose of the meetings is to secure input from the community on the various operations and services provided by the authority. The input will then be considered as the authority develops and implements plans for operations throughout the territory.

“We want to ensure that in developing our strategic plan we hear the concerns as well as suggestions from the public and various stakeholders as it relates to our operations,” Waste Management Director May Adams Cornwall said. “This input will help us to better understand, serve and address the needs of our community.”

Waste Management recently entered into a contract with UVI to assist in developing the authority’s 2015 to 2020 Strategic Plan. The sessions will be conducted by UVI’s Haldane Davies.

According to Waste Management, other sessions were held internally with the authority’s staff, board and waste haulers.
