The Carnival cruise ship Valor will visit Frederiksted Tuesday, visiting the St. Croix port from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on a charter by a group of African-Americans, the Tourism Department said Thursday in a news release.

The charter is dubbed Festival at Sea.

Tourism has scheduled a series of activities for the visitors, including musical performances in Buddhoe Park and Christiansted as well as a culture-filled parade that begins at 2:30 p.m. in Frederiksted.

The public is invited to join in the festivities, including the parade.

Whim Museum has scheduled re-enactments, storytelling and African drumming for the day. Fort Frederik will have extra guides on hand, provided by Crucian Heritage and Nature Tourism, or CHANT.

In past years, the tour group has donated books to other Caribbean islands, Hawaii and South Africa. This year they have chosen to present more than 2,000 books to the children of St. Croix. Gov. John deJongh Jr., members of the St. Croix Hotel and Tourism Association and other organizations will be on hand to accept the donation.
