WAPA Rotating Power After Generators Fail

0

The V.I. Water and Power Authority implemented a rotating power schedule Sunday when two generating units failed. The rotating power schedule will continue based on the need to provide service to all customers.

According to WAPA’s announcement, generating units 14 and 18 at the Randolph Harley Power Plant failed Sunday, Repair crews assessing the units determined extensive repairs were warranted.

Sunday’s rotations were implemented on a 2 to 3-hour schedule. Feeder loads can peak or dip during the course of the day, the release noted, making it extremely difficult to predict an advance schedule, as was the case on Sunday.

"However, the rotation schedule was monitored throughout Sunday, to determine the best available resources for Monday," the release said.

WAPA said rotations will be conducted "in a manner to ensure service is retained by as many residential and commercial customers as possible."

The tentative feeder rotation schedule, subject to change, is:

6 a.m. to 8 a.m. – 9D, 7E, 9A, 10A
8 a.m. to 10 a.m. – 7D, 6A, 9C, 7B
10 a.m. to 12 p.m. – 8A, RR (Ridge Road,) 8B, 10B

WAPA urged customers with generators to use them during the rotation schedule.
