A man who police said was recently released from the Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility was fatally shot in the Mutual Homes Apartments Wednesday, according to the V.I. Police Department.
The victim was identified as 25-year-old Miguel Rivera. It was the 11th homicide on St. Croix since the beginning of the year, the 28th in the territory.
According to the preliminary report, officers were called to the scene at about 1:30 a.m. to investigate reports of shots fired in the area of Building 24 and saw the unresponsive victim on the ground. The body was removed from the scene by medical personnel and he was pronounced dead by medical staff.
