Water customers in the Golden Rock, St. John’s, La Grande Princess and Dolby Hill areas should have water service again by noon Wednesday, according to a statement from the Water and Power Authority.
While excavating for a waterline project in the Richmond area on Tuesday morning, to tie-in a temporary12 inch bypass water line, the contractor, VI Paving, encountered obstacles that were more extensive than originally anticipated.
Crews began working at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, and worked continuously throughout the night until 3 a.m., the release said. On Wednesday morning when the task was completed, WAPA crews immediately began restoring water service, however refilling the water lines and re-pressurizing the system will take several hours to complete, WAPA spokesperson Jerain Fleming said in the early morning release.
Water customers in Golden Rock, St. John’s, La Grande Princess and Dolby Hill areas who continue to experience service interruption beyond noon on Wednesday should call the Water Distribution Division at (340)773-3775.
The bypass line will be used to provide water from a temporary pump skid at the Richmond Pump Station to customers while WAPA’s contractor works on upgrading the existing transmission manifold from a 16 inch main to a 24 inch main. The bypass is anticipated to remain in place until the new 24 inch transmission main is tied in to the Richmond Pump Station and placed in service. The 24 inch transmission main project is scheduled to be completed by November 24.
