Junior Tri Vi Announces Winners of Succotash Splash 'n Drumstick Dash

Overall winners in the 9-11 age group: Brice Richards, 1st Place male; Colin Gray, 2nd Place male; Erin Andrews, 1st Place overall and 1st Place femaleSixty-four drumsticks, belonging to 32 kids, rushed through the swim/run course Sunday morning in the Junior Tri VI Succotash Splash ‘n Drumstick Dash. While several of the "regulars" decided to sleep off their Thanksgiving leftovers, an eager bunch of kids (and volunteers) showed up bright and early at Chenay Bay to nearly perfect race conditions.
The 5-6 year-old kids were led by Logan Jones on the quick 25-meter swim. Aden Rojas, 1st grader at AZ Academy, was very close behind on the ¼-mile run and finished just 4 seconds behind Logan for second place. Ozzy Odom, of Good Hope Country Day School (GHCDS), finished third. Bella Davis-McCarthy, a first-time competitor, won the girls’ division in a time of 4:25. Allegra Ferreras from Rattan Montessori School was a solid second-place finisher.
The 7-8 year-old category was a showdown between two very consistent athletes. Tyler Jones was the first out of the water in the 50-meter swim, yet Mason Lambert posted the fastest run split of the group and overtook Logan on the ¼-mile run. Rodney Moorehead, from St. Mary’s School, was the third place male. Kirra Lambert was the first female to cross the line and was third overall. Maria Wilson, who joined a new age group today, was the second female. Emelyn Gray, from GHCDS, was third.
Erin Andrews led the 9-11 year-old group right from the start. She was able to hold off a fast-approaching Brice Richards on the .5-mile run until the finish line. Just a toe-length behind, Richards posted the same finish time of 6:42. Colin Gray was the second place male; Joey Croney was third.
Colby Moran, confirming his dedication to multi-sport events, was the sole competitor in the 12-15 year-old category. He covered the 200-meter swim and 1-mile run in 12:25.
Thanks go to Food Town for donating the chocolate milk and juicy oranges for the kids, GHCDS Interact Club for coming out in big numbers to help on the course, the parents, Tom Peil for the awesome T-shirts, Cane Bay Partners for the finishers’ ribbons and LNL Publishing for sponsoring the food.
The next race will be a duathlon (run/bike/run) at Altona Lagoon on Feb 8. The date of the April 12th Splash ‘n Dash race had to be changed to March 29.
