Boaters take a break in the action during the 33rd annual Thanksgiving Regatta. With light winds, calm seas and blue skies, sailors enjoyed two days of postcard perfect weather for the 33rd annual Thanksgiving Regatta hosted by Coral Bay Yacht Club.

The event took place Friday and Saturday.

A total of 25 vessels included a wide variety of sea craft, including a 1913 island trader, two 1933 Argentine ketches, a local Coral Bay Cowhorn, a Bequi sailer, modern J boats and cruisers, raced in seven different classes.

The fleet sailed out of Coral Bay harbor to enjoy the Thanksgiving weekend tradition. Friday featured single-handed sailors and traditional boats, and Saturday’s racing was open to crews.

The race committee, which included Coral Bay Yacht Club Commodore Stephen Hendren, committee boat sponsor Peter Hoschl of Angel’s Rest among others; conducted a series of PHRF spinnaker, PHRF non-spinnaker, pursuit, traditional and multi hull races.

Mike Finlay and the crew on Ocean Potion took first place in the PHRF Spinnaker Class, and Denise Wright and crew aboard Reality Switch won the PHRF Non-spinnaker Class.

First place in Traditional Class was John and Roni Everton on Goucho.

Brian Morrisette and the crew on Sweet Ting took first in the Pursuit Under 30 Foot Class; Sara O’Neill and the crew on Odege won the Pursuit 30 to 40 Foot Class; and Nate Emrich and the crew on Jetsunema won the Over 40 Foot Class. The Multi Hull winner was Leo and Erin Perez on YeeHaw. Complete results are below.

All funding and proceeds are placed with the non-profit youth sailing program, St. John Kids and the Sea. The regatta was sponsored by Skinny Legs Restaurant, Premier Wines and Spirits and the Coral Bay Yacht Club.
