Major Crime detectives on St. Thomas are investigating the fatal shooting of a man who on Friday morning was found unresponsive near Bldg. 5 in the Tutu High-Rise apartments.

It was the 19th homicide on St. Thomas in 2014, the 39th in the territory.

Officers were dispatched to the housing complex to investigate reports of gunfire. They arrived at the location at about 11:45 a.m. and saw the victim on the ground in a bushy area near the building.

Officers said the victim appeared to have been shot several times.

EMTs arriving on the scene said the victim had no vital signs. He was later pronounced dead by medical personnel.



The victim was identified as 36-year-old Ishmell A. Sasso.
