HANSEN PROTECTS TOURISTS

0

It is interesting — and more than a bit ironic — to note Sen. Alicia “Chucky” Hansen’s advocacy on behalf of tourism regarding the head tax legislation proposed by Sen. Roosevelt David.
In a recent letter to an official of the cruise ship industry, Hansen asked them to assist her in “beating back Sen. David’s attack [on tourism].”
Viewed in light of her behavior at a St. Croix hotel last year, which involved screaming and ripping tablecloths out from under breakfasting tourists, we wonder how deep her concern for tourism really goes.
In a highly publicized display of rage over the decision by the Cormorant Hotel’s new owners to lay off all the employees of the former owners and use volunteers from off-island while they reorganized and refurbished the property, Hansen entered the hotel, banged on doors and made a scene in front of unsuspecting guests. Was this her way of protecting the tourism industry, and those tourists who must have been, at the very least, surprised at an elected senator disrupting their vacation that way?
We only wish someone could have interceded on behalf of the tourists at the Cormorant to “beat back” Sen. Hansen’s own “attack.”
