Gov. Charles W. Turnbull has mandated all departments and agencies to cut overtime by 50 percent. Turnbull sent the message to his top officials this week that they will be held personally accountable for all overtime expenditures that exceed the budget appropriation set by the Legislature.
"It is my understanding that overtime is created by a combination of factors including unplanned work resulting from emergencies, inadequate planning and time management, and abuse of overtime authorization by some managers," Turnbull said in a release from his office. "Your personal review of the overtime authorization should significantly reduce the overtime resulting from time management problems and abuse."
He directed all department heads to submit a plan to him by May 14 outlining the steps they plan to take to reduce overtime in their departments.
