SENATE REDIRECTS $150,000 FOR SCHOOL REPAIRS

The Senate has approved the reprogramming of $150,000 to be used for emergency repairs to the Julius Sprauve and Guy Benjamin Schools.
Sen. Roosevelt David said he was successful with the help of Sen. Donald "Ducks" Cole in getting Senate approval of the amendment to Bill 23-0159, which has been sent to Gov. Charles W. Turnbull for his signature.
While $150,000 "is not a lot of money," David said in a release, "the money will go a long way in covering Guy Benjamin's walkways and improving the poor building conditions at Julius Sprauve."
In theory, David noted, money should be available to be drawn down from the St. John Capital Improvement Fund for such school repairs. However, he said, the fund "is over-appropriated and has been in deficit since Fiscal Year 1997."
