Dec. 31, 2001 – A historical drama, "Toussaint," will be presented at the Cinnamon Bay Campground amphitheater every Thursday from Jan. 10 through April 25. The performances by Carabana Ensemble Theater Company begin at 7:30 p.m.
Written by St. John resident Clarence Cuthbertson, who plays the leading role of Toussaint L'Overture, the play depicts the life and times of this 18th-century Haitian liberator who led the rebellion that ended slavery in Haiti.
"It's a slice of Caribbean history that is often marginalized," Cuthbertson said. He said the play offers education, entertainment and enlightenment.
Others in the cast include St. John actor Dwyght Browne and the current Miss UVI, Nyasha Mutunhu. Echo People will provide musical accompaniment.
Performances are free.
The production is supported by a grant from the Friends of the V.I. National Park and though cooperation by the V.I. National Park.
