March 12, 2002 – If you've always wondered what the food tastes like at that cozy restaurant down the block or that place with the hot reputation on the other end of the island, The Taste of St. Croix could be your chance to find out.
Chefs from about 40 St. Croix restaurants will dish up something special from their kitchens from 6 to 9 p.m. April 11 at the Divi Carina Bay Resort. And representatives of several of the island's liquor distributors will be on hand to conduct a wine tasting.
The $35 price of admission includes food, wine and music.
"Be sure to come very, very hungry," said Frank Pugliese, owner of Restaurant Bacchus and one of the organizers of the event.
Pugliese said that all St. Croix restaurateurs are invited to take part in the event. He said participants will be able to taste everything from food van specialties to menu selections from the island's most expensive restaurants. "You can eat from every table if you can do it," he said.
A panel of judges will select the "Best of" in many different categories, Pugliese said. He said that after expenses are paid, the net proceeds will be donated to the St. Croix Foundation for Community Development.
