AGNES KING REPORTED IMPROVING AT RLS HOSPITAL

0

March 25, 2003 – The health of former V.I. First Lady Agnes King is said to be improving, although she remains a patient in the Intensive Care Unit at Roy L. Schneider Hospital.
Mrs. King, 83, was admitted to the hospital on March 1, her daughter, Lillia King, said. In spite of the lengthy stay, the daughter said she was pleased to see how well her mother was doing Tuesday. "Thanks be to God, she's progressing slowly but well," Lillia King said.
She praised the hospital staff members for the care and attention they have been giving her mother, while declining comment on the reason for her hospitalization.
Agnes King is the wife of the late Gov. Cyril E. King, the territory's second elected governor, who served as chief executive from 1975 until his death in 1978. The couple was married on Aug. 23, 1946, in Christiansted.
A devotee of conservation and historic preservation, Mrs. King was honored in 2001 when the Legislature passed a bill naming the garden in front of Government House on St. Thomas "The First Lady's Garden." She also was honored by the American Red Cross as one of four Virgin Islanders to receive the Clara Barton Bronze Medal, in her case in recognition of 45 years of service.
