SOME BOVONI RESIDENTS GET GAS BACK AFTER A DAY

0

March 25, 2003 – Some residents of the Estate Bovoni public housing community were cooking with gas again Tuesday after a leak in their gas line had left them without fuel for a day.
It was the second time in a month that maintenance workers had detected the smell of gas from an apparent leak in the line to Bovoni Building B, according to Noel Lewis, acting executive director of the V.I. Housing Authority. St. Thomas Gas was called and crew members shut off the gas on Monday until repairs could be made, he said.
Lewis said he was told by Karen Duncan, public housing managing coordinator, on Tuesday that the repairs had been completed.
Service should be fully restored once the lines are tested and secured, Lewis said. Some preventative maintenance will be done along the gas line, which has become corroded with age, he said.
