Sept. 9, 2003 – Police are continuing to appeal to the family and friends of Jahari Hamilton to urge the 17-year-old who escaped from the Youth Rehabilitation Center on St. Croix last month to surrender.
A 16-year-old YRC inmate who escaped at the same time was captured several days later.
Sgt. Thomas Hannah, Police Department spokesman, asked on Monday that anyone knowing Hamilton's whereabouts "let us know right away."
The teen-ager was awaiting trial at the youth detention center on charges of breaking into the residence of an elderly woman, assaulting her and stealing money from her.
Hannah said the 17-year-old reportedly has been seen in the Frederiksted area in recent days and asked that anyone with information about the youth contact police investigators by calling 778-4950 or 911.
