Sept. 10, 2003 — The family of Isabelle Octavia Edney-Williams, of Estate Two Williams, Frederiksted, has announced her passing after a prolonged illness.
The funeral will be at the Beulah A.M.E. Zion Church in Estate Lower Bethlehem (east of the National Guard Armory) on Friday, Sept. 12. Viewing will be at 9 a.m. and the service will follow at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at the Frederiksted Cemetery. It was Isabelle's wish that those attending her home-going celebration wear colorful attire.
She was the daughter of Hubert Edney and Agatha James-Edney, who both preceded her in death. Her loving family resides on St. Croix, on St. Thomas, in the United States and overseas. Her family and friends reside in the Virgin Islands, the Caribbean, Europe, Africa and Asia.
All are invited to a "Celebration of Life" gathering on Saturday, Sept. 13, from 11 a.m. until sundown at the Vincent Mason Pool in Frederiksted. Bring a favorite dish to share. To confirm the menu contact the family at 772-0641. Please wear your Edney Family T-shirt if available.
Isabelle worked for the V.I. Agriculture and Finance departments, the Legislature of the Virgin Islands and the Bronstein CPA firm. Other vocational pursuits were as an accountant, insurance salesperson, Realtor and a financial and business management consultant under the name "Belle, Book and Clarity."
Her community involvement included first president of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 133, Friends of Denmark, V.I. National Guard Family Support Group, Lions Club, AARP, the St. Thomas Livestock Association, Juan Luis Hospital Dialysis Support Group, charter member of the UVI Alumni Association and the Fredeiksted Credit Union.
Isabelle is survived by former husband, Chester R. Williams, and mother-in-law Johanna Williams; in-laws, Johanna Williams and Maryann Jarvis; three daughters, Karen D. Williams, Dana E. Williams and Leone R. Williams-Rohr; fourteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. Her grandchildren on St. Croix are Qiahna Williams, and Semoya and Taheem Phillips. She is also survived by "adopted daughters," Esther "Tootie" Saunders, Lynnette Dowe, Zebbeisha Callwood, Dasilva Davis and Shanice Hendricks; and "adopted sons" Kofi Boateng, Henry Schuster and Gregory Bennerson.
Also left to celebrate her life are her brother, Adolphus Edney; sisters, Jean Canton, Gertrude Iles, Claudia Merrick and Genevieve Edney; brothers-in-law, Gustave Williams, Oscar Williams, George Williams, Randy Ross Sr. and Edgar Iles; sisters-in-law, Mildred Edney, Cecilia, Gloria and Clara Williams and Lois Brathwaith; nephews, Randy Edney, Norman Edney, Bryan Edney, and Michael Canton, Dr. Kasey Canton, Randy Ross Jr., Roan Ross and Derrick Iles; nieces Yvette Ross-Edwards, Marjorie Edney, Laura Edney and Reva Ross; and sons-in-law Timothy Rohr Sr. and Alvin "Taheem" Phillips.
She is also survived by cousins, Eulalie Elcock, Loomis Limbacher, Annette Quinland and Olga Macedon; and close friends, Sarah James, Celia Brow, Eunie Brown, Sheila Schulterbrandt, Bernice Harrigan-Lees, Doris Williams, Wallace Phaire, Clema Lewis, Ann Parris, Myrtle Richards, Pat de Chabert, and "The Girls:" Pat, Melba and Janice.
She was related to a number of St. Croix families, including the Edney, James, Brannigan, Wilson, Petersen, Andrews, Barbel, Milligan, Heyliger and Sackey families.
Preceding her in death were in-law Gabriel Williams, brother-in-law Lloyd Williams, close friends Vivian Hester-Bennerson, Rudy Schulterbrandt, Dorothy Walcott and Mario de Chabert.
The family is thankful for the many caregivers who provided comfort for Isabelle during her illness, including: Dr. Charles Perez and the hemodialysis staff, Dr. Walter Gardiner and staff, Dr. Cora Christian, Dr. Carleton Hodgson, Jeanie Garcia, Dasilva Davis, Esther Sweeney, Sarah James, Linus Ryan, Icilma Kent, Laverne Robles, Rita Phillips, Alvin Phillips, Kevin and Wanda Williams, the staff at ICU and Medical, paramedics, Family Caregiver Support Program, Rev. and Mrs. Richard Austin, Father Gaddy and the St. Patrick Prayer Group, Sheila Smith and Dial-a-Ride, Beulah and Medford AME Zion Church Missionary Society, Angeline Narinesingh, V.I. National Guard Family Support Group, Caroline Adams, Steve Wilson and the staff of Wheel Coach Inc.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Isabelle O. Edney-Williams Fund c/o The Beulah Church, P.O Box 5300, Kingshill, St. Croix for a hemodialysis support foundation which is being established in her memory.

  1. She was my mother-in-law. She still is. She will always be. But more so, she was my friend during a dark time.
