June 21, 2004 – The V. I. Water and Power Authority (WAPA) is scheduled to close the road from Bjerge Gade from Norre Gade,Route 308, to Dronningens Gade beginning on Tuesday, June 22, from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m. for several nights while WAPA continues to install underground electrical ducts in the area.
The Norre Gade-Beltjen Road intersection at Wet Willy’s will be closed to traffic. As the work progresses northward on Norre Gade to Dronningens Gade, Route 38, the intersection will be reopened to traffic. North bound traffic on Beltjen Road from the Lovers lane intersection will be for local destinations only; the closure of the Wet Willy’s intersection will not allow through traffic. South bound, eastbound and westbound traffic to the Wet Willy’s intersection will be detoured.
A press release from WAPA urges motorists to use caution and obey direction signs and instructions from flagging personnel.
This underground duct project is a phase of the new $5 million system that is being constructed by WAPA to improve electrical distribution in the St. Thomas-St. John Water Island District. The new system will provide a dual high voltage transmission system that will permit the Authority to provide electricity to areas from two different locations.
