UVI Posts New Web Site for 2000-2005 Strategic Plan
UVI has posted a new Web site for its 2000-2005 Strategic Plan. "The university's future is full of promise and boundless opportunity and our Strategic Plan is the roadmap to that future," UVI President Dr. LaVerne E. Ragster said. The site is designed to help communicate to faculty, staff, students, prospective students, alumni and UVI supporters the progress being made toward implementation of the Strategic Plan.
"This new site is informative, easy to navigate and interactive," the president said. "I invite everyone to take the time to explore the site, review our Strategic Plan and learn more about UVI's many exciting new initiatives." She added that the site will also serve as a source for updated information as the university begins work this fall on its 2006-2012 Strategic Plan. For more information, contact Dr. Deborah C. VI-EPSCoR Science Seminar Series Continues Friday, Aug. 27
Dr. Richard Nemeth, director of marine and environmental studies at UVI, will present the second in the VI-EPSCoR Seminar Series of science lectures from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 27. Dr. Nemeth will offer a comparison of seasonal versus permanent closures for protecting red hind spawning aggregations in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The seminar is free and open to the public. It will originate in Chase Auditorium (Business Education Room 110) on UVI's St. Thomas campus and be videoconferenced to Evans Center Room 401 on the St. Croix campus.
The lecture series is scheduled to continue each Friday through Nov. 19. The next two lectures in the series are as follows:
— Sept. 3 – Dr. David Booth – topic: Paradise Lost – Ecology and Dispersal of Coral Reef Fishes Outside Their Ranges
— Sept. 10 – Dr. Hall and Dr. Steward – Neural Circuits in Lobsters. The series is hosted by UVI's Center for Marine and Environmental Studies, UVI's science and mathematics division, and the VI-Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research program. For more information, call 693-1380.
First Meeting of UVI's St. Thomas Graduating Class of 2005 Set for Sept. 11
All UVI students on the St. Thomas campus who expect to graduate in 2005 are encouraged to attend the first meeting for prospective graduates on Sept. 11. The meeting is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. at the Windward Passage Hotel in Charlotte Amalie. The agenda includes election of class officers and the dissemination of information for seniors. UVI Offers Orientation Conferences for Grant Programs
UVI will offer orientation conferences on Sept. 9 and 10 for two federal grant programs designed to assist individuals operating small businesses involved in research and technology related endeavors. UVI faculty members involved in research and technology are also encouraged to attend.
The programs are the Small Business Innovation Research Program and the Small Business Technology Transfer Program. The conference will be held on St. Thomas from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, Sept. 9, at the Small Business Development Center at Nisky Center. On St. Croix, the conference will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, Sept. 10, in Evans Center Room 401 on UVI's St. Croix campus.
Interested individuals must reserve space in one of the sessions no later than Friday, Sept. 3. To reserve a space, call the UVI-SBDC office 776-3206 by 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 3. For more information, contact Warren T. Bush, State Director of the UVI-SBDC at 776-3206 or via e-mail.
The conferences are offered jointly by the UVI Research and Technology Park's Small Business Assistance Program and the UVI Small Business Development Center.
