Jan. 18, 2005 The V.I. Carnival Committee was recently named as one of the 2004 Pinnacle Awards winners presented by the International Festival and Events Association.
In a release from IFEA Friday, the organization stated the Carnival Committee won a bronze medal in the Promotional Poster category for events with budgets ranging from $500,000 to $1.5 million.
The award was presented to the committee in November during the association's 49th Annual Convention and Expo Experience in Boston.
The Carnival Committee submission was one out of 1,458 entries from among the world's "top" festivals and events.
"This prestigious awards competition recognizes the highest degree of excellence in festival and events promotions, and in doing so, has raised the standard and quality of media promotions industry-wide," Steven Wood Schmader, association President and chief executive officer, stated in the release.
Entries included: posters, merchandise, Web sites and advertisements.
Caswil Callendar, executive director of the Carnival Committee, said Wednesday that since the committee became members of the association it has won each time it sent in submissions.
Callendar said the committee won a gold medal in 1998, a bronze medal in 2001 and now another bronze medal in 2004.
"It shows the kind of talent that we have here," Callendar said of the award. "If we can win third place among 1,400 entries, that's saying something. We here should be very proud; at least the Carnival Committee is."
Callendar said the committee does not send off submissions each year, but chooses to submit posters that it considers to be "winners."
The association is headquartered in Boise, Idaho, and is a non-profit, membership organization with more than 2,000 members. The organization offers ideas, resources, information and networking for festival and event professionals worldwide.
