March 7, 2005 – The Virgin Islands Writing Project invites all writers — amateur and professional — to participate in a writing marathon on St. John on Saturday, March 12.
The day will be spent writing, reflecting and sharing manuscripts while enjoying the beauty of the Cinnamon Bay Campground in the Virgin Islands National Park, according to a release from the University of the Virgin Islands.
Participants are asked to bring pen, paper, and beach gear and carry lunch and snacks or plan to buy them at Cinnamon Bay.
St. Thomas residents should plan to take the 10 a.m. ferry to Cruz Bay. St. John residents can meet the group at the Cruz Bay ferry dock at 10:20 a.m. or at the Tree Lizards Restaurant at Cinnamon Bay at 10:45 a.m..
During the writing marathon, participants will form small groups and write in a variety of locations around Cinnamon Bay. The groups will reassemble at 3 p.m. for a read-around. St. Thomas residents will arrive back in Cruz Bay to return on the 5 p.m. boat.
There is no registration fee. As a community service, the Virgin Islands Writing Project will cover the cost of taxi shuttle service on St. John to those who call in advance.
The Virgin Islands Writing Project is funded by the University of the Virgin Islands, the V.I. Department of Education, and the National Writing Project.
