(Charlotte Amalie, U. S. Virgin Islands, March 22, 2005) Today, Senator Shawn-Michael Malone accepted the nominations by Senate President, Lorraine L. Berry, to serve on the Council of State Governments Committee on Suggested State Legislation, Committee on Transportation, and to serve a consecutive term on the Virgin Islands Law Revision Commission. The Council of State Governments Committee on Suggested Legislation highlights innovative legislation from one state that may be beneficial to other states, and particularly in response to trends that may adversely impact or benefit the U.S. Virgin Islands; The Council of State Governments Committee on Transportation, Eastern Regional Conference, guides the policy directions of the organization whether it is sharing innovative ideas, adopting resolutions, or advocating regional interests in Washington; and the Law Revision Commission is responsible for the continuing substantive review of U.S. Virgin Islands statutory and decisional law.

"It is indeed a tremendous honor to be appointed to the Council on State Governments Committee on Transportation, Committee on Suggested State Legislation, and to serve another term on the Virgin Islands Law Revision Commission. I look forward to the challenges and opportunities that will present themselves as a member of these respective committees and the Virgin Islands Law Revision Commission," Senator Malone explained.

"This would be my first term as a member of the Council on State Governments Committee on Suggested State Legislation and Committee on Transportation. It is my intention to acquire valuable and pertinent information from these meetings to better assess the concerns of the residents of the Virgin Islands and to determine what factors are necessary to remedy them. Concerns surrounding public transportation, road repairs, capital projects, and economic development have the potential to be addressed effectively and efficiently with measures that have proven to be successful in other states or territories. As for the Virgin Islands Law Revision Commission, this would be my second appointment, of which I served as Chairman and I am aware of the many opportunities and challenges that the Law Revision is faced with. I am confident that given my previous service as a member on the Commission, we can hopefully implement measures to improve the quality of life for all our Virgin Islands citizens," Senator Malone continued.

"I would like to thank the Honorable Senate President, Lorraine L. Berry for her consideration in appointing me to these very important and relevant national legislative committees and reappointing me to serve on the V.I. Law Revision Commission. I look forward to serving these committees and the V.I. Law Revision Commission to the best of my ability and welcome the challenges of such a distinct opportunity. I hope my recent appointment as a member of the Committee on Suggested State Legislation, Committee on Transportation, and Law Revision Commission, will present many policies and reforms that have assisted other state governments that may prove to be beneficial for the people of the U.S. Virgin Islands," Senator Malone concluded.
