0

April 28, 2005 – At the February SEA Creatures Masquerade Ball and Auction for the St. Croix Environmental Association, Hovensa with a $15,000 bid won the opportunity to support the new Environmental Learning Lab Program.
Dick Smullen, Hovensa's vice president of environmental, health and safety, said "Hovensa is pleased to support this important environmental program for the island of St. Croix."
The Environmental Learning Lab is in the final stages of being equipped with microscopes, equipment and prepared modules for a wide range of bridge to reef environmental topics. The van will travel to schools, public events and even to the beaches on the weekends to teach kids about the St. Croix's island ecology. The Environmental Learning Lab will be ready to go by the time school begins this fall.
Megan Shoenfelt, executive director of SEA, said in a recent press release that she is delighted with the large donation. "This is a tremendous boost to our environmental education program. I am so excited; we will now be able to commit to hiring a full-time environmental educator with this support from Hovensa. I want to publicly thank them for their level of commitment and support for this innovative program. It will be a model program for the Caribbean."
