Youth Moviemaking Workshop Application Deadline Extended

0

June 7, 2005 – The application deadline for the fifth annual summer Youth Moviemaking Workshop has been changed from June 3, 2005 to Friday, June 10, 2005 by The Reichhold Center for the Arts.
The Youth Moviemaking workshop is an intensive seven-week, hands-on training experience designed to build practical skills in the field of digital film production. The overall goal of this unique program is to introduce students to the technology, art and discipline of filmmaking. For the first four weeks, students will learn the language and techniques of filmmaking. Working as a team, they will complete assignments reinforcing what they learn about using digital cameras, and lighting, sound and video-editing equipment. During that period, they each pitch an idea for a film and together will decide which idea will become the final film project.
Twenty students from St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix will be selected to participate in the program. The program is open to all students ages 13 -18. Each student is required to submit a complete application, two samples of the student's creative works, a short essay explaining the student's desire to be in the program, and two letters of recommendation, one of which must be an academic reference.
The program begins on Monday, June 6, 2005 and ends on Friday, August 5, 2005 with a final presentation, which is open to the public, on Saturday, August 6, 2005. Program hours are Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Students who are enrolled in the program are required to be in attendance for the duration of the program. The fee for the Youth Moviemaking Workshop is $700 plus a $50 supply fee, and meals will be provided. Scholarships and payment plans are available but must be applied for separately.
The program is made possible by The Virgin Islands Council on the Arts and The Law Enforcement Planning Commission Edward Byrne Memorial Grant.
