Pearl A. Callwood is Dead at 81

Jan. 27, 2006 – Pearl A. Callwood, better known as "Pearlie" or "Ms. Pearl," died on Jan. 18, at the Maasac Nursing Facility at the age of 81. She had been a U.S. Customs employee for 35 years and was the first female inspector in the territory. She was active with the Mungo Niles and the St. John Cultural Dancers, displayed cultural apparel, beadwork and crafts, built apartments, founded the Veggie Table Health Food Store, and also held the title of Miss Senior America 1995.
She is survived by a son, Clifford Callwood Jr.; daughters: Agnes M. Callwood and Gail Callwood-Hill; former husband Clifford E. Callwood; brother, Roy Smith; and sister, Myrtle Edwards. Other survivors include grandchildren: Clifford Callwood III, Marion Callwood, and Dayle and Deidia Hill; adopted children: Austin Grosvenor and Glenna Grosvenor Cross; and other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
There will be a viewing on Monday, Jan. 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., at the Davis Funeral Home Chapel. There will be a funeral service at 10 a.m. at All Saints Cathedral.
