Virgin Islands music legends Stanley & the Ten Sleepless Knights will perform at the Sunset Jazz event in Frederiksted during the Agriculture Festival on St. Croix Feb. 17. The Sunset Jazz event is sponsored by Frederiksted Economic Development Association, Inc.
The band will play at 6 p.m. at Fort Frederik Beach Park. Marsvyn David's VI Rhythem Section and jazz saxophonist Hans leonardo Pedersen will join Stanley & the Ten Sleepness Knights on stage.
Stanley & the Ten Sleepless Knights formed in the 1960s and the band is dedicated to the preservation of native music styles. The group plays several styles of Caribbean music as well as some American jazz, building a solid fan-base over the years. The band has played throughout the Caribbean as well in Denmark, and has made 11 recordings.
The band members are flautist Stanley Jacobs, vocalist and banjo-uke player Eldred Christian, Tino Francis on keyboards, bass-man Gilbert Hendricks, saxophonist Dr. Olaf Hendricks, steel and squash player Kendall Henry, drummer Carmelo Pena, congo player Christian Thompson, vocalist Jeanette Rouse-Cochrane and sound engineer Dr. Lauren Larsen.
