Sanseric M. Powell, Rotary West Member and Musician, Dead at 86

March 21, 2006 — Sanseric M. Powell, 86, died March 17 at the Juan F. Luis Hospital. Born in Frederiksted in 1919, Powell attended Frederiksted Public Grammar School, Frederiksted Junior High School and St. Croix Vocational Institute.
Powell was a mechanic by trade, and in 1962 he opened Powell and Sons, a gas and service station in Frederiksted. He was also employed by Ann Abramson Enterprises and the V.I. Police Department until his retirement in 1988.
Powell was also a musician and played with several bands in the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and New York. Powell is survived by his wife, Rita, of 36 years.
The couple were active members of Rotary West up until Sanseric's passing. He is also survived by three daughters –Agatha Powell Nelson, a retired UVI professor; Cordelia Powell; and stepdaughter Grace Ann Hodge — and two sons: Anthony and Sanseric Powell.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 24 at the Frederiksted Friedensberg Moravian Church. Viewing and tribute begins at 10 a.m., service begins at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at the Frederiksted cemetery.
