Senator's Words Are 'Truly Troubling'

0

Dear Source:
I couldn't believe the words that I was reading quoted from Senator Juan Figueroa-Seville this a.m. in The Source from "Nominees for Attorney General and Tourism Sail Through Committee." Our Senator was quoted as passionately saying: "Roger W. Morgan and his KKK cronies may want to recall you, too".
Mr. Seville-you are out of line. By your distorted perspective-I would guess you consider me a "KKK crony". It seems to me that throughout this entire recall issue-and let's remember it was your vote for Bill #6905 that initiated the peoples response-your behavior speaks volumes about who you are. You do not seem to understand the constitution and the people's right to express their opinions. That clearly concerns me. I believe that it was totally inappropriate for you to call Roger Morgan and his supporters (me proudly being one), who have asked you to take responsibility for your vote, "KKK cronies".
The "KKK" is an ugly and awful institution pitting whites against blacks. This clearly demonstrates your desperation in trying to create fear and division in our Islands. This is not what an "Honorable Senator" does. And as a Senator you are responsible for passing laws. Truly troubling.
I stand behind my love for these Islands and my reputation in working hard for harmony and positive change in my Community. In my involvement on St. John for over 20 years, I have witnessed first hand our seniors, teens and youth continually short-changed because they do not have the funds available to help improve their dire situations. I have used monies out of my own pocket for Christmas parties because of my dedication to do what is right for the people that I so love. Why? Because the inner workings of our Government somehow do not have their act together enough to see that these needs are being taken care of.
I suggest that you focus your energy on the work that you are paid to do instead of attacking good citizens who are attempting to give you opportunities "to make right a wrong done on Dec. 28". Instead of listening to the people-you are attempting to divide them. Sorry, but I deeply believe in my heart that the truth will prevail. There's a quote that comes to mind here: "We don't see things as they are-we see things as WE are". I think you need to examine yourself and your perspective. From where I stand, you have a great deal of inner work to do to get your perspective back in line.
