Nov. 21, 2008 — All V.I. Water and Power Authority customers on St. John will receive estimated bills for their November bill, which covers a 30-day service period that spans October and November. Those bills are now in the mail.
"It's based on the average consumption in kilowatt hours for the last three months," WAPA spokesman Cassandra Dunn said Friday.
Calling it a technical glitch, Dunn said there was "miscommunication" in the meter reading department which resulted in the St. John meters not being read on their usual schedule. Dunn said that by the time WAPA realized the problem and the meter readers went out to read the meters, it was, for some customers, 47 days since the last scheduled reading.
So that customers wouldn't receive huge bills, Dunn said WAPA decided to send estimated bills.
"In all good conscience, we could not send out those bills," she said.
The meter readers are currently reading St. John meters, and when the December bill goes out, the amount due will reconcile the difference between the estimated and actual amount due.
WAPA has about 5,000 customers on St. John, Dunn said.
